FINANCE OFFICER

The Barbados Workers’ Union welcomes applications from suitable candidates to join its team. The incumbent must be an efficient and detail-oriented individual who is well organised and knowledgeable of accounting principals and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assists with the management of the General Ledger and Balance Sheet and with the production of budgets and reports.
- Analyses financial records to identify errors and discrepancies and provide support to ensure the meeting of audit requirements.
- Manages records and receipts.
- Assists with the development, review and improvement of financial policies and work processes to ensure the meeting of targets, production of quality of information and safeguarding of the Union’s assets.
- Processes invoices and enters and reconciles member information and transactional data into the appropriate accounting programmes.
- As required, interprets and ensures that the Union follows all government laws and regulations associated with taxes and Anti Money Laundering legislation.
- Develops an in-depth knowledge of BWU services and processes to provide efficient and effective customer service to members and union partners.
- Key point of contact for other departments of the BWU, members and external partners on financial, accounting and rental matters.
- Supports the Financial Controller and collaborates with other departments to achieve Union and departmental goals.
- Assists with the coordination of the Union’s registration and voting procedures at the BWU’s Annual Delegates’ Conference.
- In the absence of the Financial Controller, takes on any other related duties, as deemed necessary, to ensure the smooth running of the Accounts Department.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field and a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CGA etc.).
- Three (3) or more years of professional accounting experience.
Required Knowledge:
- The core values of the BWU.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Mission, Vision, and Customer Service Charter of the Union.
- Knowledge of general procedures, and rules that effect the functioning of the Union.
- Knowledge of communication channels and reporting procedures within the Union.
- Working experience in relevant software applications –including but not limited to Power Point, spreadsheet, word processing and database management.
- Expertise in administrative and clerical procedures.
- Knowledge of business principles.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Outstanding and professional customer service skills and a willingness to comply with the Union’s obligations to provide good customer services.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Experience with complex accounting systems.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Must be a team player.
- The ability to multitask.
- The ability to quickly acquire and apply new knowledge.
- The ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of Quickbooks and AML stipulations would be an asset.
- The ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality.
